Hotpot in general
What is hotpot?
Hotpot is a delightful Asian way of dining where a pot of hot broth is placed in the middle of the table. Everyone cooks their own meat, fish, vegetables, noodles, and other ingredients in the broth. Afterwards, you retrieve them with a hotpot strainer and enjoy them with a delicious dipping sauce.
How does hotpot work?
You heat the broth in a hotpot pan on the table and continuously add small portions of ingredients. Once cooked, you remove the ingredients with a strainer or chopsticks and dip them in your favourite sauce. Then, you simply add new ingredients. This way, everyone at the table cooks and eats their own meal.
How many people can hotpot at once?
That depends on the size of your pot. With a 6-liter hotpot pan, you can comfortably hotpot with up to 8 people. For a larger group, you can use multiple pans if needed.

What do I need for a hot pot night?
For a successful hotpot evening, you essentially only need a few things: a hotpot pot, a delicious broth or soup base, various ingredients, and a dipping sauce. Think of meat, fish, tofu, vegetables, and noodles. With hotpot accessories like a skimmer, bowls, and chopsticks, you can complete the experience.
What ingredients are suitable for hotpot?
When making hotpot, you can use a wide variety of ingredients. Popular choices include thinly sliced beef, chicken, shrimp, fish, tofu, mushrooms, bok choy, napa cabbage, corn, potato, dumplings, and various types of noodles. The fun part is that you can vary it endlessly and decide what you like best.
How much food do I need per person?
As a guideline, you can count on approximately 300–400 grams of ingredients per person, depending on what you serve and how many different ingredients you choose. For a meal with a lot of vegetables and noodles, you often need less meat or fish. When in doubt, a little too much is better than too little: leftover ingredients can often be used the next day.
How long does a hotpot dinner take?
On average, allow 1.5 to 2.5 hours for an enjoyable hotpot evening. There's no fixed end time: you cook small portions continually and eat at your leisure. It's precisely the shared cooking, conversation, and trying out different ingredients that make hotpot so enjoyable.
Is hotpot suitable for children?
Yes! Hot pot is actually fun for children because they can choose what they want to eat. Opt for a mild broth and ingredients that children enjoy, such as noodles, dumplings, corn, mushrooms, and thinly sliced meat. Do pay close attention to the temperature of the broth and always keep an eye on young children around the hot pot.
Is hotpot spicy?
That's not necessary at all. Hotpot can be both mild and very spicy. You decide which soup base and dipping sauce to use. For beginners or children, a mild broth is a good choice. Do you love spicy food? Then you can choose a spicy hotpot base or add extra chili to your dipping sauce.
Can I do hotpot vegetarian/vegan?
Absolutely. Hotpot is very easy to make vegetarian or vegan. For example, use tofu, mushrooms, bok choy, napa cabbage, broccoli, corn, carrots, potatoes, and noodles. Also, choose a vegetarian or vegan soup base and always check the ingredients and allergen information of the products.
Can I do hotpot alone or with 2 people?
Yes, absolutely! Hotpot isn't just for large groups. With two people, it's actually easy to try different ingredients and enjoy a quiet meal together. You can also have hotpot perfectly fine by yourself. For a small group, simply use less broth and ingredients.
What is the difference between hotpot and fondue?
With fondue, you usually cook ingredients in hot oil, cheese, or chocolate, while with hotpot, you cook ingredients in a hot broth. Additionally, in hotpot, the pot is filled with various ingredients, and everyone cooks small portions themselves. This makes hotpot a complete meal where you can endlessly vary with meat, fish, vegetables, tofu, dumplings, and noodles.
Hotpot boxes & hotpot pan
Can I compose my own hotpot box?

How many watts is the hot pot?

Does the hotpot have different temperature settings?
Yes. You can set the temperature to quickly bring the broth to a boil and then keep it at a suitable temperature while eating.
Can I use both halves separately?
Yes. The pot is divided into two compartments, allowing you to use two different broths simultaneously. For example, you can combine a mild and a spicy broth.
Is the hotpot dishwasher safe?
No, the electrical parts and the pan are not dishwasher-safe. After use, clean the pan by hand according to the included instructions.
How do I clean the hot pot?

What should I do if my hot pot doesn't work?

What plug/connection does the hot pot have?
The hotpot comes with an EU plug and can be connected directly to a standard power outlet. You don't need a separate hob or special connection. Please note
Is the electric hot pot safe to use?
Yes, the pan is safe to use under normal conditions. Place the pan on a stable, flat, and heat-resistant surface, and keep the electrical components away from water. The pan and broth become very hot during use, so keep children and pets at a safe distance.
Soup Bases & Sauces
Which hotpot soup should I choose?
That mainly depends on your own taste. Do you prefer a mild and accessible flavour? Then opt for a natural soup base. Prefer something with more kick? Then a spicy soup base is a good choice. For those who enjoy a rich, savoury, and slightly sweeter taste, the tomato soup base is a delicious option.
How spicy are the different soup bases?
The spiciness varies per soup base. The natural soup base is mild, while the spicy version has a noticeably stronger kick. The tomato soup base is primarily flavourful and approachable. If you don't like very spicy food, we recommend starting with the mild version.
What is the difference between the different flavours?
Each soup base has its own character. The natural variant has a mild, savory taste, the spicy variant gives your hotpot a herbal and spicy kick, and the tomato variant has a rich, slightly sweet and savory taste. You can also combine two flavors in a pot with two compartments.

How do I prepare the hot pot soup?
Follow the preparation instructions on the packaging of your chosen soup base. Generally, you add the soup base to water, then bring the broth to a boil in the hotpot. Once the broth is piping hot, you can start hotpotting.
How much soup base do I need?
The required amount depends on the chosen soup base and the amount of broth you want to make. Therefore, always follow the ratio and preparation instructions on the packaging.
Can I use two flavors at once?
Yes, and that's precisely one of the great things about a hotpot with two compartments. For example, you can use a mild and a spicy soup base at the same time. This way, everyone at the table can choose their favourite flavour.
What dipping sauce goes with what soup?
There are no strict rules: choose what you like best. A mild dipping sauce goes well with a spicy broth, while a more robust dipping sauce can be delicious with a mild soup base. Try out different combinations and discover your own favorite.
Can I make my own dipping sauce?
Certainly! A dipping sauce is very personal, and you can vary it endlessly. For example, start with a base of sesame oil, soy sauce, or sesame peanut sauce, and add chili, garlic, spring onion, or other flavorings to taste.
Are the soup bases vegetarian or vegan?
This varies per soup base. Therefore, always check the ingredient list and allergen information on the packaging of the respective soup base. You can also easily make your own broth

Which meat should I use?
There is no fixed rule for which meat to use. Choose whatever you like. Thinly sliced beef is a good choice for beginners. You can also vary with chicken, pork or other types of meat that are suitable for quick cooking.
Can I use fish and seafood?
Yes. Fish and seafood are excellent for hotpot. Think of shrimp, fish fillet, squid, and scallops, for example. Cut larger pieces into smaller portions and make sure fish and seafood are fully cooked before eating them.
Which noodles are suitable for hotpot?
Almost any type of noodle can be used in hotpot. Popular choices include glass noodles, rice noodles, udon, and ramen. However, be aware that some noodles cook quickly while others take longer. Therefore, add noodles at the right time.
How thin should meat be sliced?
The thinner the meat, the faster it cooks. For hotpot, very thin slices are ideal, as they often only need to be cooked for a few seconds to about a minute, depending on the type of meat and desired doneness. Asian supermarkets often sell meat specifically sliced for hotpot.
How long should I cook various ingredients?
That depends on the ingredient. Thinly sliced meat and soft vegetables often cook quickly, while potatoes, carrots, and some types of noodles take longer. Always ensure that meat, fish, and seafood are fully cooked before eating.
Can frozen ingredients go straight into the hotpot?
Some frozen products can be placed directly into the hotpot, but this varies per product. Therefore, always check the preparation instructions on the packaging. Please note that frozen products can temporarily lower the temperature of the broth.
How do I prevent the broth from becoming too salty or too spicy?
It's better to start with a milder flavor and add more later. Use the soup base according to the recommended ratio on the packaging and don't immediately add extra salt or spice. As you hotpot, flavors from meat, vegetables, and other ingredients will also transfer into the broth, causing the taste to continuously evolve.
Accessories
Why do I need a hot pot skimmer?
A hotpot skimmer is useful for easily removing your ingredients from the hot broth. For example, you can use it to scoop up meat, vegetables, noodles, and dumplings without having to put your hands or a regular spoon into the hot pan. A skimmer is especially practical for small ingredients.
What is the difference between a hot pot spoon and a skimmer spoon?
A regular hotpot spoon is designed to scoop up broth and larger ingredients. A skimmer spoon has small holes, allowing the broth to drain back into the pot while you remove the ingredient. For hotpot, both are useful and complement each other well.
How do I use a hot pot skimmer?
Use the slotted spoon to scoop your ingredients from the broth and let any excess liquid drain back into the pot. Then you can put the food directly into your bowl or dip it in your dipping sauce. You can also use the strainer to easily find smaller ingredients like noodles or dumplings.
